Inspiration at the Heart of Education
The purpose of the expedition is to inspire the next generation of adventurers particularly aimed at Primary school children aged 7 to 10 years old. Taking advantage of the natural sense of curiosity and adventure at that age, the Yukon Assignment will both inspire through a film documentary, as well as create a set of topic based resources to be used at Primary level. These will be dove-tailed into the curriculum themed around the expedition.
The documentary will follow the expedition through the preparation stage and throughout the main journey. This is an opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of the Yukon from a normally inaccessible vantage point. We hope to highlight the environmental concerns and importance of conserving this special |
wilderness. At its heart this is a human story, of a father/son trip of a lifetime, the challenges along the way, and how by drawing upon their differences and shared purpose they can make it through against the odds.
The education packs wills include everything the teacher of a Primary class will need to deliver an inspirational lesson (apart from their skills and professionalism of course!). The idea is to immerse the student in the expedition through video clips and activities themed around situations encountered on the expedition. The child will be left with a thirst to find their own adventures in life and a fired enthusiasm to understand how the world works around them. |

Fire Lighting Risk Assessment for Schools/Youth Organisations
This obviously shouldn't replace good risk assessment by you on the ground. It will however, give you a starting point to build a safety framework around fire lighting and campfire cookery sessions you can run with young people. Feel free to adapt to your venue and requirements. Always work within your knowledge base and capabilities.
